The ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 is an enclosed FDM 3D printer built on a CoreXY architecture, engineered for high-speed printing across a broad range of materials. It provides a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume, print speeds reaching up to 500 mm/s, a default acceleration of 10 000 mm/s², and a hotend capable of reaching 350°C.
CoreXY Kinematics and Rigid Mechanics
The CoreXY design achieves print speeds of up to 500 mm/s, with 250 mm/s as the recommended setting, while acceleration reaches up to 20 000 mm/s². Two 4260 stepper motors independently power the X and Y axes alongside low-friction metal linear rails for fluid movement. The Z-axis features 3 trapezoidal lead screws and 3 metal linear guides, giving stable three-point support to the build platform to preserve layer repeatability. An integrated die-cast aluminum frame and base dampen vibrations to maintain ±0.1 mm dimensional accuracy.
350°C Hotend and Extensive Material Compatibility
With its enclosed chamber and a hotend reaching up to 350°C, the Centauri Carbon 2 works with both standard and technical 1.75 mm filaments. Supported materials include PLA, PETG, TPU, PLA-CF, ABS, ABS-CF, ASA, ASA-CF, PET, PET-CF, PETG-CF, PC, PA, and select PPS and PPA polymers. The toolhead features a Dual-Gear Direct extruder, titanium heat break, and a 0.4 mm nozzle made from brass and hardened steel, complemented by a heated bed that reaches 110°C.
Automated Setup and Process Monitoring
The printer features full automatic calibration and a 121-point mesh bed leveling routine. An integrated camera enables live monitoring, while a filament runout sensor and clog detection help safeguard long jobs. The build platform utilizes a double-sided spring steel sheet featuring textured PEI on one side and a dedicated PLA surface on the other. User interaction is handled via a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, built-in HEPA filtration with activated carbon, and low-noise drivers operating below 45 dB.
