A lacrosse ball is a massage ball used to relax overly tight muscles. Lacrosse balls are a great addition to therapy in the physical therapy room. They allow athletes to carry out post-workout self-therapy and prepare the muscles for even more effective training.
Massage balls are a great way to get rid of pain in overly tight muscles in the neck, back or limbs. You can use them in several ways that we recommend: static trigger point relaxation and deep self-massage.
1) Static Trigger Point Relaxation - Place the ball on the painful area and press until the sensation of pain decreases, or about 40 seconds.
2) Deep self-massage is a bit like rolling on a roller - you press the ball to the massaged area and slowly run it over overly tense muscles, repeating the action several times.
